Steve Rose, chief mouthpiece for the Dick Bond-wing of Johnson County politics, has largely been off our radar for the past few months. The largest reason is that due to some kind of contractual issue, his column was removed from the front of the Johnson County Sun and with it, his automatic access to tens of thousands of Johnson County residents who received the Sun in their mailboxes or driveways the past 20+ years. AP: Americans’ net worth shrinks $1.33 trillion in 1Q 2009

Net worth represents total assets such as homes and checking accounts, minus liabilities like mortgages and credit card debt.

The damage to wealth in the first quarter came from the sinking stock market. The value of Americans’ stock holdings dropped 5.8 percent from the final quarter of last year.

Another hit came from falling house prices. The value of household real-estate holdings fell 2.4 percent. Collectively, homeowners had 41.4 percent equity in their homes in the first quarter. That was down from 42.9 percent in the fourth quarter.

The Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (ODEI) is sponsoring a Diversity award for a faculty member, staff employee, administrator or student who has demonstrated a commitment to furthering the goals of campus diversity.

For award consideration, individuals should be nominated by a member of the JCCC community. Self-nominations are welcome; Fellows or employees of ODEI are ineligible.
