What is Agenda 21?

Agenda 21 is a plan to develop our communities under the guidance of the federal government and the United Nations (UN). Questions exist regarding whether this is an attack on individual liberties.

There will be a presentation about Agenda 21 and sustainable development in Overland Park next week. A national expert on this topic will speak regarding the push of Agenda 21 in the name of economic development.

The Leavenworth County Republican Party will host a Town Hall Meeting on Monday evening, January 2nd , 7:00-9:00 pm. The meeting will be held at the Lansing Community Center, 800 1st Terrace, Lansing, KS.

Our guest speaker will be Ray Roberts, Secretary, Kansas Department of Corrections. His agency is charged with the supervision of nearly 9,000 inmates and 10 correctional facilities. It also oversees about 6,000 people on parole. Through academic and vocational education services, as well as its sex offender program, the department also assists offenders in becoming contributing members of society. His discussion should be very enlightening, considering that we have both a State and a Federal facility within Leavenworth County and a large workforce employed by these facilities. (more…)

Public hearing on proposed projects

Overland Park, KS – Residents are invited to offer suggestions on proposed projects contained in the 2013-2017 Capital Improvements Program during two public hearings.

Public comment sessions are during the Planning Commission meeting at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 10.

The second hearing is at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 17, during the City Council meeting.

Both meeting are in the Council Chamber of City Hall, 8500 Santa Fe Drive.

Pick Up America comes to Lenexa on Sept. 24
Pick Up America’s national trash clean-up effort will make its way through Lenexa in the Midwest Litter Fest, a 45-mile trash-grabbing event from Johnson County to Lawrence, Kan. on Saturday, Sept. 24.

The Blue River Watershed Association (BRWA) is organizing this regional event as part of the nation’s first coast-to-coast effort to reduce roadside litter. Interested citizens are invited to take part by volunteering to pick up trash along the route. Volunteers can sign up as individuals or any type of team in this family-friendly event. (more…)
