Lenexa – BBQ grills now allowed, but burn ban remains in effect

Lenexa temporary burn ban updated to allow BBQ grills

Burn ban will remain in effect until further notice

Due to the continued low humidity and dry conditions, the temporary ban on open burning will remain in effect until further notice. The ban prohibits all outdoor burning except outdoor cooking grills. Outdoor fireplaces, fire pits, bonfires and yard chimineas are not allowed during the ban.

No open-burning permits will be issued until the dry environmental conditions and low humidity have improved and the threat of fires has decreased. Notifications will be made when the burn ban is lifted.

Outdoor Fire Safety Tips:

Always dispose cigarettes in approved fire-safe containers. Do not discard cigarettes in areas of grass, mulch, brush, leaves or from vehicles. If you plan to cook outdoors, please follow these grill safety guidelines:

Charcoal grills and other open-flame cooking devices should not be operated within 10 feet of combustible construction or materials.

All grills and open flame devices should be attended at all times when in use.

Ensure all open flames, charcoal, and hot embers are fully extinguished and cooled when cooking is completed.
