Departments Announce Cost Saving System

Topeka-The Kansas Department on Aging and the Kansas (KDOA) and the Kansas Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services (SRS) are announcing the start of an Electronic Verification and Monitoring (EV&M) system for home health care providers known as KS AuthentiCare for use in selected Medicaid waiver programs.

KS AuthentiCare is a web-based scheduling, time and attendance tracking and billing system designed specifically for the diverse needs of Medicaid home and community-based services. The paperless system provides real-time access to information needed for consumer services management and will assist providers in streamlining their business practices and reducing dependence on paper reporting and billing processes.

Using a traditional landline or GPS-enabled mobile device, claims are generated automatically when the worker calls a toll-free phone number from the consumer’s home or uses the mobile application at the beginning and end of service delivery. KS AuthentiCare uses the worker’s unique ID number and the consumer’s phone number or the worker’s unique ID number and GPS location to verify the service being provided and the consumer receiving the service. KS AuthentiCare submits the claim to MMIS for adjudication after the provider reviews and confirms the claim via the web.

When this program is implemented, providers must use the EV&M for the services in the following Medicaid waiver programs:

Kansas has contracted with First Data to provide KS AuthentiCare. This comprehensive system has been successfully implemented in other states, these states have seen a 3-10% savings in claims. SRS projects it will save $7 million annually and KDOA estimates it will save $1.6 million annually by implementing this system. KDOA and SRS are excited about this new venture and look forward to making KS AuthentiCare available for home care providers.

Training on the use of KS AuthentiCare will be provided to home care providers free of charge. More information on training will be provided soon.
