Pick Up America comes to Lenexa on Sept. 24
Pick Up America’s national trash clean-up effort will make its way through Lenexa in the Midwest Litter Fest, a 45-mile trash-grabbing event from Johnson County to Lawrence, Kan. on Saturday, Sept. 24.
The Blue River Watershed Association (BRWA) is organizing this regional event as part of the nation’s first coast-to-coast effort to reduce roadside litter. Interested citizens are invited to take part by volunteering to pick up trash along the route. Volunteers can sign up as individuals or any type of team in this family-friendly event.
Participants will meet at Shawnee Mission Park on Sept. 24 at 8 a.m. to check in, and receive route assignments and all the tools you will need to become honorary Pick Up Artists for the day. The event will culminate back at the park with a group photo, art project and celebration, with an estimated ending time of 1 p.m.
Although there is no fee to participate, volunteers are invited to raise funds for BRWA as part of this event. Complete information on the Midwest Litter Fest, including a route map and instructions on how to register to become a volunteer, is available at www.brwa.net.
