Am. United for Life Applauds the House for Passing the No Taxpayer Funding of Abortion Act

AUL APPLAUDS THE HOUSE FOR PASSING THE “HISTORIC PROTECTIONS” IN THE NO TAXPAYER FUNDING OF ABORTION ACT

WASHINGTON, D.C. (05-04-11) – Americans United for Life President and CEO Dr. Charmaine Yoest applauded the House’s vote to protect Americans from being forced to subsidize the abortion industry with their tax dollars, and to ensure that health care providers’ rights of conscience are protected.  “This historic vote is the first time the Hyde Amendment has been made a permanent protection of the American taxpayer. We hope the Senate will follow suit.”

Dr. Yoest made the following statement: “The 251 to 175 bipartisan vote is evidence that the House is in tune with the majority of Americans who do not want to see their tax dollars go to the bloated, scandal-ridden abortion industry,” Dr. Yoest noted.

“Democrats and Republicans in the House have come together on these important matters. Passing a permanent, government-wide prohibition on the use of federal taxpayer funding for elective abortions and the subsidization of insurance coverage for elective abortions is a tremendous pro-life victory, ” Yoest stated.

“Today’s vote marks a historic day to celebrate – the House has thwarted the abortion industry’s efforts to target vulnerable annual “riders” to appropriations bills and regulations that currently prohibit federal funding of abortion. Today’s key vote also protects our health care providers’ basic civil right to provide care without violating one’s conscience.”
