John Altevogt in Kansas City Kansan on constant property increases in WyCo – Mr Bryan’s Factory of Mystical Home Values

That’s why when I first ran data on other homes like mine in 2007 I found that they were being taxed on average at 123% of their actual sales values. By 2009 that figure had skyrocketed to 171% of actual sales values. Worse yet is that my neighborhood got off relatively easy. In 2007 properties in the urban core were over appraised by Mr. Bryan’s Factory of Mystical Home Values on average by 191%. Yes, 191% that’s not a typo.

By comparison, before consolidation came in I recall seeing a document in the Appraiser’s office that stated that appraisals in parts of Wyandotte County were 22 – 44% below, yes, below, their actual sales values. Also by comparison, in my 2007 analysis I found that million dollar plus properties in Leawood (you know, the ones you could buy if you just sold your house for what Gene Bryan says it’s worth) were being appraised at less than 68 cents for every dollar of actual value.
