To bring this back to the person of George W. Bush, what he glimpsed after his mother’s miscarriage was a vivid, early substitute to an ultrasound image. It portrayed the other end of life. He saw not a brother or sister sucking a thumb or grasping a toe in the womb but someone who never made it. Either way, he saw a human life. He saw a brother or sister-another potential Robin. Clearly, he or she was not a blob of tissue.

Using technology in education is a promising innovation to improve student performance. However, its potential is stifled by the lack of incentives and opposition to innovation in traditional schools. Public school teachers that bridge the gap can serve as powerful role models. Additionally, we need to increase funding for private school vouchers and charter schools, who are better at innovating because they are not tied down by teachers unions and face more powerful incentives to compete for student tuition, and to prepare students for the 21st century.

Ravitch says that it is time for the GOP to decide whether it supports top-down reform from Washington or the local leadership.

Women want jobs to be available, not unemployment checks. Sending out unemployment checks is at best band-aid economic policy. It would be much better for the Administration to focus on why it is that there is so much unemployment in the first place and try to bring down barriers to private sector job creation than to have to find ways to ameliorate the effects of joblessness.

Derek Smith appears in a Wall Street Journal report on how few start-ups and jobs our current economy is creating. New companies are the key source of jobs; they drive the economy. Unfortunately the creation of new companies is lagging behind closings of older ones.

As my colleague Charlotte Hays pointed out yesterday morning, entrepreneurs are missing in action. It seems the White House somehow missed that rather relevant fact, as the Obama administration proudly proclaimed National Entrepreneur’s Day! Main item on the menu for this celebratory occasion: Government Waste.

Town Hall Meeting – Republican Party

The Leavenworth County Republican Party Central Committee will host a Town Hall meeting on Monday evening, December 6, 7:00-9:00 pm. The meeting will be held at the Lansing Community Center in Lansing (800 1st Terrace).

What a great election we had. Kansas really did a “Clean Sweep”. We totally over-turned the statehouse and added many new legislators state-wide. We have much to celebrate, but we still have much yet to do. Many exciting things are yet to be accomplished.

Our guest speaker for December will be Caleb Stegall. Caleb is an attorney and writer, residing in Perry, KS. He is currently serving as the District Attorney for Jefferson County, KS. He is a proponent of Traditionalist Conservatism. Caleb’s topic is: “What the Election of 2010 means for Localists, Populists, Tea partiers, and Other ‘Radical Conservatives”. (more…)

TMLC Collecting First-person Accounts of TSA Assaults

The Thomas More Law Center encourages any American who either was forced to submit to a full body scan or was assaulted by TSA agents during an “enhanced pat down” to email the Law Center about the incident.

“We believe that the enhanced pat-downs are a violation of the 4th Amendment and an unnecessary invasion of privacy,” said Richard Thompson, President and Chief Counsel of the Law Center. “We understand that there is a need for national security. It’s important for the government to protect the public; however, these enhanced pat-downs don’t increase public security. Instead, the TSA, which currently considers every American as a suspected terrorist, should focus their attention on appropriate profiling and intelligence analysis.” (more…)
