City of Lenexa Road Construction Updates – Lane closures planned on 95th Street over I-435

Lane closures planned on 95th Street bridge over I-435

The Kansas Department of Transportation will begin working on a resurfacing project on the 95th Street bridge over I-435 next week.

Weather permitting, beginning at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, June 2, both eastbound and westbound 95th Street will be restricted to one lane of traffic over the bridge and will remain so throughout the project duration. Drivers should expect delays and are advised to use alternate routes, if possible.

Advance message boards will alert drivers to the 95th Street closures. No marked detours will be provided. Updated daily lane closure information for this bridge resurfacing project can be viewed online at: www.ksdot.org/kcmetro/laneclose.asp.

Workers will spread a thin layer of epoxy over the bridge deck and sprinkle small gravel on top. The process will be repeated to create two layers of the “polymer overlay.” The resurfacing project will seal the bridge deck and reduce penetration of de-icing salts that can speed the decay of steel in the deck. The new surface will also increase skid resistance.

PCI Roads is the primary contractor on this bridge resurfacing project with a total contract cost of $940,000. The scheduled completion date for the entire project is mid-June 2010.
