Republican Senate Pick-up in North Dakota. Rasmussen: Republican Hoeven 72%, Democrat Potter 23%

The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Likely Voters in North Dakota finds Hoeven earning 72% support, while his Democratic opponent State Senator Tracy Potter picks up 23%. Just two percent (2%) favor some other candidate in the race, while three percent (3%) remain undecided.

But little has changed in the race since longtime Democratic Senator Byron Dorgan’s surprise announcement in January that he would not seek reelection. The announcement came shortly after a Rasmussen Reports poll in the state showed that the popular GOP governor had a 22-point lead over Dorgan in a hypothetical Senate match-up. Since then, Hoeven’s support against Potter, the Democrats’ choice to run against him, has held in the narrow range of 68% to 71%. Potter’s support also has fluctuated very little, reaching a high of 25% in March.
Hoeven now gets 97% of the GOP vote and 28% of Democrats. He has a six-to-one lead over Potter among voters not affiliated with either of the major parties.
