PA-12 Shows Big-Government Candidates Aren’t Safe
AFP Urges Mark Critz to Sign No Climate Tax Pledge

ARLINGTON, Va. – Newly elected Rep. Mark Critz won in an overwhelmingly Democratic district Tuesday night, and did so only by avoiding ties to President Obama and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s radical agenda.

Americans for Prosperity Tim Phillips released the following statement:

“Critz dramatically under-performed in a core Democrat district held for 36 years by John Murtha, where Democrats outnumber Republicans by 2 to 1 in voter registration. Even with a hotly contested Senate primary driving left-wing Democratic turnout, Critz ran away from the Obama/Pelosi agenda.

“The Obama/Pelosi agenda is deeply unpopular with the American people. Big-government candidates in dozens of congressional districts across the country will not have the advantage Critz had of an overwhelmingly Democratic district. Many of them have themselves cast votes for ObamaCare and cap-and-trade that will prevent them from portraying themselves as opponents of the measures, as Critz did.

“Mark Critz has not yet signed AFP’s No Climate Tax pledge, assuring the citizens of his district that he would not vote for new taxes on them in the name of global warming. We urge him to sign the pledge and we will do everything possible to hold him to his campaign promise to oppose the cap-and-trade energy tax.

“If Mark Critz and other members of Congress do not vote in the best interest of their respective constituents, they will face the voters’ judgment in November.”

Just a few days before the special election, Americans for Prosperity paid a visit to the district with two Hot Air TourTM events urging Critz to sign AFP’s No Climate Tax pledge. To see pictures from the PA-12 Hot Air Tour events, please visit
