Schodorf for Congress: Former State Sen. Pat Ranson Supports Jean Schodorf

I’ve been watching and admiring Senator Jean Schodorf’s negotiating and legislative skills for many years now. I first took note of her in the late 80s, when she was serving on the Wichita School Board. No one was as tenacious about seeing that our children’s needs were met. Jean’s own credentials-a PhD. in Communicative Disorders and post doctoral work in education administration-speak volumes about her genuine concern for children, as well as for the teachers who are instrumental to their futures.

For the past 10 years, Jean has served in the Kansas senate. Yet again I’ve been impressed, not only with her incredible command of the issues but also her shrewd negotiating skills; she works with everyone trying to find solutions that are in the best interests of Kansans. Given my own high regard for Jean, I was especially pleased in July of 2009 to learn that the editorial department at the Wichita Eagle felt the same way. While Jean has now declared her candidacy for the 4th district Congressional race, and one candidate has dropped out while two others have thrown their hats in the ring, the jest of the blog remains the same. Here’s what it said:

Schodorf run makes sense
State Sen. Jean Schodorf, R-Wichita, wasn’t high on the list of likely candidates to succeed Rep. Todd Tiahrt, R-Goddard, in the 4th Congressional District seat next year. But such a candidacy, which she is exploring, would add interesting ideological breadth to the GOP field. Like former congressman Dan Glickman, Schodorf started her political career on the Wichita school board, including as its president. Her eight-year tenure in the Kansas Senate is four times longer than Tiahrt’s was when he unseated Glickman in 1994. Schodorf has connections to Montgomery and Chautauqua counties, making her district base much larger than Wichita. And don’t count out the potential impact if her radio and TV ads featured the sonorous voice of her brother, TV producer and broadcaster Bill Kurtis. Those already in the GOP primary are state Sen. Dick Kelsey, RGoddard, and Republican National Committee member Mike Pompeo.

If you, like me, are weary of the empty rhetoric of partisan politics, I urge you to help elect the one candidate whose sole focus will be the issues that matter to you. Jean’s number one priority is to bring jobs back to Kansas. And, of course, for her, education and programs for the elderly and disabled are never far behind. For you and your family, for Kansas, I urge you to support Jean with a contribution of $25, $50, or $100.

Your investment of $25, $50, or $100 will help pay for the ads and commercials it takes to run a campaign. And, when it gets right down to it, your financial support of Jean Schodorf for Congress is an investment in the future of Kansas. You can Donate Here! or mail to P.O. Box 1879, Wichita, KS 67201.

I thank you for your time and attention.

Sincerely,

Pat Ranson

Former Kansas State Senator
District 25
