San Francisco Chronicle: Pelosi overpowers Stupak, path is cleared
The executive order is meaningless, and there was always plenty of legitimate reason to question why the Senate language negotiated by abortion foe Ben Nelson of Nebraska with California pro-life Sen. Barbara Boxer would in any way allow taxpayer funding of abortion. If anything, it seems to make it infinitely more difficult to find insurance coverage of the procedure by requiring a separate rider that few women are going to purchase, based on experience in the states.
The anti-abortion lobby is screaming bloody murder, but now it’s just a matter of who, usually a member from a district where yes would be suicide, gets one of the rare passes to vote no.
