Greg Johnson in TN: ‘Recovery’ stats don’t add up
Recovery.gov – the much maligned and often inaccurate stimulus-tracking Web site – reports that Sevier County received more than $54 million from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The state Web site for ARRA – tnrecovery.gov – reports $48 million for Sevier but a difference of $6 million is close enough for government work.
But let me stifle my sarcasm and cage my cynicism for a moment. Some of these funds will actually help Sevier County and its millions of visitors. The largest chunk of change is going to widen some infamous infrastructure – state Highway 66, the only route into town from Interstate 40. The Tennessee Department of Transportation values that project at $36.2 million.
