Now is not the time to build moderate fiefdoms eager to make alliances with the party of Obama. Rather, we must restore the meaning of Republican to that identified by our party’s first president: “government of the people.”

Any number of bright, conservative and principled Republican leaders are ready to take up that bold-colored banner. Instead of further diluting our message, Mr. McCain should clear the way for us to build a new, people-focused party for a bright and prosperous American future.

As of early this morning, we have exactly 31 days until the end of the year. December 31 is also the last day that we’ll be able to raise and report campaign contributions in 2009.

In anticipation of this very important deadline, we’ve set an end of month goal to recruit 2,010 individuals to make contributions before December 31. We hope we can count on your contribution today of $5, $10, $50 – or whatever amount you are able – to ensure we reach our goal.

The Obama administration has begun approving new lines of human embryonic stem cells that are eligible for federally funded experiments, opening the way for millions of taxpayer dollars to be used to conduct research that was put off-limits by President George W. Bush.

Launching a dramatic expansion of government support for one of the most promising but most contentious fields of biomedical research, the National Institutes of Health on Wednesday authorized the first 13 lines of cells under the administration’s policy and was poised to approve 20 more Friday.
