CJ Online: Parkinson acts on deficit

CJ Online:

Gov. Mark Parkinson responded Thursday to a $160 million state budget deficit by imposing 2 percent spending reductions on most government agencies and expressing despair about the potential of tax increases if economic devastation widens.

“We need our revenues to stabilize over the next 12 months,” the governor said. “If they don’t we’re going to have to put a lot of other options on the table. Among those options will be revenue enhancements.”
