KC Star on wasteful “stimulus”: Federal money will let Overland Park buy foreclosed properties
Overland Park is going to battle against blighted foreclosed properties with $700,000 in federal money.
This week, the City Council agreed to create a land bank where it can buy foreclosed properties that have fallen into disrepair and pose a threat to nearby property values.
As the economy has turned sour, property maintenance has been an increasing problem in Overland Park and other cities where homes can go uncared for if they’re abandoned amid foreclosure proceedings.
