Poll: 28% Likely To Watch Conan O’Brien on “Tonight Show,” But Carson Still King
Conan O’Brien officially replaces Jay Leno as host of NBC’s “The Tonight Show” today, but Johnny Carson is still the king of late-night comedy.
While Leno is stepping down after 22 years as host of “The Tonight Show,” 42% of Americans declare Carson, whom he succeeded, to be the best late night talk show host. Leno and CBS’ “Late Night” host David Letterman tie with 19% support each, while Carson’s predecessor Jack Paar receives just two percent (2%).
Twenty-eight percent (28%) of adults say they are at least somewhat likely to watch “The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien.” Among those who watch talk shows every night or nearly every night, 27% are likely watch, but 28% are not at all likely to see the show.
Adults who are 40-49 are more likely to watch the show than any other age group.
