Wayne Godsey editorial: Changes to Alcohol Policy, KU’s Student Privacy Policy

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — It’s a shame that it took the deaths of two students for the University of Kansas to change a policy that shielded parents from information about their children’s underage drinking problem. The parents were told only if the student signed a waiver. The university now says it will notify parents if a student under 21 violates a drug law or university policy that endangers their life or someone’s life. Parents will also be notified if a student is kicked out of a residence hall or after a second alcohol violation.
